Artist Spotlight: subject

June 23rd, 2023

subject is a photographer based out of Central Florida. He has been engaged in photography on and off for approximately 15 years.

He was most recently a studio portrait photographer, but made the decision to leave photography as a business altogether due the monotony and lack of inspiration. His passion for the art form reignited by returning to the style of his earlier years, where his photography focused on street scenes and architecture.

His images predominantly feature black and white aesthetics, reminiscent of his initial experiences with film photography. He has always found black and white to be more visually appealing. The inherent limitations of black and white photography, coupled with the ability to emphasize shapes, shadows, and contrast, allow him to explore his creativity further, tackling shots that would otherwise overwhelm him if in color.

Another self-imposed limitation he adheres to is shooting solely with point and shoot cameras. Despite previously owning Nikon DSLRs and mirrorless cameras, he found the extensive selection of lenses and equipment to be burdensome. He discovered the beauty of simplicity and the challenges that come with pushing his gear to its limits.

What scares you?

What does the future hold?

What matters the most?

Provide some bad advice.

Focus on what other people expect from you. Conform to modern trends and value social media exposure above being your genuine self.

Thank you for your time.
